Hurler Bell included in Antrim football panel

New Antrim football boss Jody Gormley has announced his provisional panel for the season ahead, and it includes noted hurler Gavin Bell.

New Antrim football boss Jody Gormley has announced his provisional panel for the season ahead, and it includes noted hurler Gavin Bell.

Twenty-five-year-old defender Bell, who was the Antrim hurlers' vice-captain last season, is expected to see immediate action for the footballers in the Gaelic Life Dr McKenna Cup, which begins this weekend.

Sunday will see Gormley's Saffrons side begin their competitive season away to Down in Section C of the McKenna Cup.

Experienced goalkeeper Sean McGreevy is also back in from the cold after being deemed surplus to requirements during Mickey Culbert's recent reign as manager.

McGreevy, who helped Antrim to an All-Ireland B title in 1999, impressed during recent trial sessions. Old hands Paul Close and Paddy Logan are also back in the mix.

Among the younger players to have made the initial 30-man panel are Gort na Móna club mates Gareth Galway and Kevin Franklin.
