Five people were hospitalised last night when a Luas tram derailed after colliding with a truck on Dublin's northside.

The accident happened at around 9pm on the Red Line at Queen Street, in the Smithfield area of the city.

The tram was en route from Tallaght to Connolly Station at the time.

The collision forced the suspension of all Luas services between Connolly Station and the Blackhorse stop, but the company that operates the trams said they should be running as normal this morning.

The LUAS Red Line has been the scene of more than 10 accidents since it opened last September.
