Man gets life for murdering girlfriend with stone

A Dublin man has been sentenced to life imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court for the murder of his 15-year-old girlfriend six years ago.

A Dublin man has been sentenced to life imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court for the murder of his 15-year-old girlfriend six years ago.

23-year-old Keith Kelly, of Colepark Drive, Ballyfermot, was convicted of murdering Melanie Gleeson in the grounds of the Dominican Convent in Ballyfermot.

He had admitted a charge of manslaughter, but the plea was rejected by the State.

The court heard Kelly had hit Ms Gleeson across the head with a stone during a row after she admitted seeing another youth.

Kelly told gardai he then drank a can of cider before throwing the stone into the nearby river Liffey.

When Ms Gleeson's naked body was found, it had been partially covered with a coat and had multiple head injuries.
