Despite the best efforts of captain Brian O'Driscoll to make him stay, Leinster flanker Keith Gleeson has stuck with his decision to retire from the game and he did it in style, bowing out at the RDS with a man of the match winning performance in Leinster's 41-8 victory over Newport-Gwent Dragons.
It marked his last appearance in a Leinster shirt as he will not be available for selection for this Friday's away trip to the Dragons.
31-year old Gleeson, who came back from a serious leg break in 2004, has lost out on Magners League success in the last two weeks of the last two seasons but last night ended his Leinster career as it began in 2001 - with a Celtic League medal.
Gleeson received a standing ovation as he left the RDS field of play and coach Michael Cheika says Gleeson's departure will leave the province with a "massive leadership hole".
