Elderly people have been urged to keep warm over the Christmas period.

Age Action Ireland is advising them to wear a number of layers, to keep active in their homes and to sip warm drinks throughout the day.

The charity has also said they should keep a flask with a hot drink beside their bed at night.

It says the lower temperatures increase the risk of heart attack and stroke for older people.
