Juvenile held in connection with stabbing

A person has been arrested following the death of a man found stabbed in the early hours of this morning, gardaí said.

A person has been arrested following the death of a man found stabbed in the early hours of this morning, gardaí said.

The juvenile was being questioned over the death of the 36-year-old man in Co Leitrim. The man was found with a single stab wound to his chest.

Police were called to the house in Carrick-on-Shannon after reports of a domestic incident and found the wounded man on the landing at around 1am.

Attempts were made to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were holding the teenager under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act at Carrick-on-Shannon garda station.

A spokesman said officers were not following any other lines of inquiry in connection with the murder.

The dead man’s body remained at the scene today while technical examinations took place.

A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out by the deputy state pathologist later today.
