The champions disposed of Galway on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-9. Both sets of management fielded strong teams and Galway began the better, leading the Rebels by 1-8 to 0-3 at the break.

However, Cork came back in the second-half and a Brian Corcoran goal saw them seal with win in Newtownshandrum.
