Adams must reveal any knowledge of abusers moved across the border, says Harris

Junior Finance Minister Simon Harris has hit out at the leader of Sinn Féin, saying "victim syndrome has engulfed Gerry Adams".

Deputy Harris is calling on Deputy Adams to answer questions about whether known child sex abusers were moved from the North into the Republic by the IRA.

It has been claimed that up to 10 individuals were relocated to parts of Donegal, Dublin and Louth.

Deputy Harris says the public has a right to know the truth.

"We're told that Gerry Adams said IRA members had let down victims of abuse," he said.

"I need to know from Gerry Adams, the Irish people need to know from Gerry Adams - what did he mean by that, how did they let him down?

"Does he know of abusers, child abusers, that were moved over the border into a different jurisdiction?

"Can they now cast light on … were people moved from the North, to the Republic, in relation to child abuse issues by Sinn Féin/IRA?

"Have we a situation where we have the effective trafficking of child abusers into this country?"

When asked about the allegation that sex abusers were moved by the IRA into the Republic, Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane said that he has no knowledge of any such movements.

"I don't know what happened or did happen any more than you did, and what I'm saying is - Sinn Féin has not been accused of anything in relation to any of these issues, and if that was the case, if people were moved, that would be entirely, entirely wrong and despicable.

"I simply don't know whether that did happen or did not happen."
