The son of Dubai Destination signed off last season with a decent fourth in the Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract and soon had this race in the bag on his seasonal reappearance.

Always to the fore under Philip Robinson, the 8-11 favourite was never asked a question, winning hard-held by two and three-quarter lengths from Coin Of The Realm.

Jarvis said: “He had smart form last year and that success will have done his confidence a lot of good.

“I think he’ll get a mile and a half in time and he has an entry in the Italian Derby. We’ll have a look at it, but it depends on how the race pans out.”

Henry Cecil gained a timely first winner of the season on the eve of the Craven meeting when Born Tobouggie showed plenty of spirit to land division one of the Showsec Maiden Stakes.

Travelling nicely enough in the soft ground to take the lead with three furlongs to travel, she found plenty under Ted Durcan to get the better of a protracted battle with Fosool, winning by a neck at 7-1.

Assistant trainer Mike Marshall said: “It’s very pleasing to have a winner with the week we’ve got in store.

“Born Tobouggie was working well enough at home, but this was educational more than anything, as you never know how well they will act in the conditions.

“We weren’t expecting a win, but she’s done it nicely in the ground and will probably need further in time.”

Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Glorious Gift relished the extra furlong in division two.

Second over seven furlongs at Folkestone last time, the 8-11 favourite cruised clear under Alan Munro to beat Barricado by six lengths.

Chapple-Hyam and Munro completed a quickfire double when Jaser made it two out of two for the season in the Best Racecourses on TurfTV Handicap.

The 6-4 chance moved nicely in the early stages, before Munro pushed him at the three furlong pole and he kept on nicely to spreadeagle the field in the closing stages, finishing two and three-quarter lengths clear of Conquisto.

Dorn Dancer (4-1) produced a stunning late surge to get her head in front where it mattered in the five-furlong Lyfab Enterprises Handicap.

Ian Barlow, representing winning owners The Ebor Partnership, said: “Fergal (Lynch) was brilliant on her, we didn’t think the gaps were going to appear for some time.

“She needs five and a half furlongs really, but a strong five is ideal if everything falls into place.”

Calypso Girl made her experience tell when making every yard of the running to land the European Breeders’ Fund Maiden Stakes, beating the 2-1 favourite Shampagne by half a length.

Penny Island, having his first run on the Flat since his three-year-old days, landed his first success under any code when edging out Effigy in the Paddocks Conference Centre At Nottingham Racecourse Handicap.
