Carlow 1-14 Derry 1-07

Although level at the interval, visitors Derry failed to maintain their early good work on the restart as a seven-point defeat to Carlow condemned them to Division 3 hurling next season.

A Ruairí Convery goal ensured that Derry shared the spoils at 1-04 to 0-07 at the interval.

Despite wayward shooting by the hosts, they finished strongly thanks to scores from Rory Dunbar, Brendan Lawlor and Robert Foley.

Derry's woes were compounded following the dismissal of Convery with a second yellow card in the 53rd minute.
