Prison officers from the North are due to meet British officials in London today in an effort to avert possible strike action.

The prison officers have threatened to go on strike as part of a row over the amount of money being spent on their security.

The British government has insisted that the £20,000 (€28,000) it has spent on security at the homes of the North’s 1,400 prison officers is appropriate to the level of threat they face.
