Psychiatric nurses hold strike ballot over compensation row

Psychiatric nurses are due to begin voting today on whether to take strike action over the lack of compensation they receive in the event of a physical assault.

Psychiatric nurses are due to begin voting today on whether to take strike action over the lack of compensation they receive in the event of a physical assault.

SIPTU and the Psychiatric Nurses Association say the health services have consistently reneged on a promise to set up a compensation scheme.

They say more than 1,300 psychiatric nurses were attacked at work last year, an increase of 500 on the figures for 2001.
