Director: Burr Steers
Cast: Zak Efron, Amanda Crew, Charlie Tahan, Agustus Prew
Efron is certainly moving his career along at a solid pace, from teen female heart-throb to a very promising actor in serious roles … he’s still very much your male crumpet but he can’t help looking good, can he?
Here he plays Charlie, a young man finding it difficult coming to terms with grief, guilt and having to move on after he feels responsible for the death of his much-loved younger brother, Sam (Tahan).
Burdened with remorse, Charlie takes a job as caretaker in the cemetery where Sam is buried … and since he can ‘see’ Sam and play baseball with him and talk to him letting go is virtually impossible.
But can yachtswoman Tess (Prew) bring him out of his pit of gloom?
It’s a sugar-sweet melodrama that strives hard to be a much more adult affair, and just about succeeds.
