Comic Seinfeld escapes car crash

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld escaped unhurt after rolling one of his classic cars when its brakes failed.

Seinfeld was driving the 1967 Fiat in the Hamptons, on Long Island, and was forced to swerve away from a busy junction when he found he could not stop.

The two-door saloon flipped over and halted just yards from the main road, a police spokesman said, adding that the comic’s manoeuvre “probably avoided a very serious accident”.

The accident was put down to mechanical failure, and no summonses were issued.

Seinfeld ,53, did not need medical attention and returned to his East Hampton home.

“He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened,” his wife, Jessica, said.

Seinfeld joked later: “Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do.

“It is not something I plan to make a habit of.”

The multi-millionaire sitcom star, who co-wrote, co-produced and starred in last year’s animated 'Bee Movie', is a big car fan and has one of the world’s largest collections of Porsches.
