Up to 47 suspected of cheating in Leaving Cert

It has emerged 47 candidates didn't get their Leaving Cert results this week, because officials believe they cheated in their exams.

It has emerged 47 candidates didn't get their Leaving Cert results this week, because officials believe they cheated in their exams.

In most cases that is as far as the sanctions go, however in serious circumstances the offender could be debarred from repeating the exam.

Meanwhile, the State Examinations Commission is continuing to query another 67 cases of suspected cheating.

In those cases, the student and school are contacted by the SEC and the student has the opportunity to offer a response, and appeal any decision to impose a sanction.
