Shoe bomber videos released

US prosecutors have released two videos showing the destruction that could have been caused aboard a transatlantic flight if shoe bomber Richard Reid had succeeded in igniting the explosives.

US prosecutors have released two videos showing the destruction that could have been caused aboard a transatlantic flight if shoe bomber Richard Reid had succeeded in igniting the explosives.

Reid, 29, from London, pleaded guilty in October to attempting to blow up American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami on December 22, 2001. Prosecutors plan to show the video simulations when Reid is sentenced on January 30 in Boston.

Yesterday, prosecutors submitted a memorandum asking a judge to sentence Reid to life in prison, offering the videos as evidence of what could have happened if Reid's plan had not been thwarted.
