Artesyn Technologies is to close its plant in Youghal with the loss of 160 jobs over the next nine months.
80 people will still be employed in sales and design offices at the facility which is involved in manufacturing power supplies for the telecoms market.
According to a company press release on the job cuts at Youghal, Artesyn is to move production to the company's lower-cost manufacturing locations in Hungary and China.
The IDA had given around €6.5m in grant aid to the company over the years and it will be the subject of negotiation as to how much of this will be returned to the IDA.
The Tanaiste, Mary Harney said that the job losses were a blow to the workers and their families, particularly at this time of year.
