Police in the Republic and the North were working together tonight to catch a vicious sex attacker who assaulted a young woman before dumping her in the Co Wicklow mountains.
The victim, in her twenties, was found in a distressed state on the remote Military Road, Glencree, high in the Co Wicklow mountains on Sunday morning with injuries to her head and body.
She had been at a city centre nightclub in Dublin’s Harcourt Street on Saturday night and gardaí are investigating the possibility she got into a blue saloon car which had a Northern Ireland registration plate.
Investigating detectives believed it was also possible the car, seen in the Glencree area, was registered in England and have contacted their counterparts in the North to seek their help.
“We are liaising with the PSNI,” a garda officer confirmed.
Detectives have set up an incident room at Bray Garda Station and are working to establish the victim’s movements after she left the Dublin nightclub at around 2.20am on Sunday morning.
She was subjected to an overnight ordeal before managing to alert a passing motorist in Glencree at around 8.30am on Sunday.
The woman was admitted to Tallaght Hospital where she was being treated for her injuries.
Gardaí are also trying to locate her black DKNY handbag and have asked for anyone who can help them with their inquiries to get in contact.
