Police in the North are investigating two overnight burglaries targeting elderly people in Belfast and Co Down.

A woman in her 90s was hospitalised with facial injuries after three masked men forced their way into her home on the Chichester Road in north Belfast and demanded money.

The gang escaped with a small amount of cash.

Meanwhile, a 79-year-old woman was left badly shaken after she was awoken to find four masked men on the landing of her home in the Moody Park area of Scarvagh, Co Down.

The men ransacked the house before fleeing the scene.
