Ballinderry 2-10
Nemo Rangers 0-9
There were scenes of great jubilation as Ballinderry, the Derry champions, won the AIB club All-Ireland senior football title for the first time at Thurles today beating Nemo Rangers of Cork by seven points.
The winning margin flattered the Derry side as Nemo enjoyed generous posession but failed to convert it into scores.
Ballinderry were the better team in the first half, against the breeze. Helped by a goal from Declan Bateson in the twentieth minute they led 1-3 to 0-5 at half time. Colin Corkery kicked three of Nemo's points from frees.
Nemo dominated the third quarter but Ballinderry did the scoring, registering four points in ten minutes.
Nemo then found their range and had four points to get within a point of their rivals by the 19th minute.
Gerard Cassidy was Ballinderry's match winner as he finished off an excellent five man move with a goal in the 23rd minute. There was no way back for Nemo now and Ballinderry had three further points in the closing stages.
To cap a great day for Ballinderry Bell, a late replacement at corner back was named man of the match.
