The Queen of England is likely to visit Ireland in May.

According to reports in the Irish Times, discussions on the details of the visit are ongoing but it is expected Queen Elizabeth II will visit for three days and will make a speech at Dublin Castle.

Speaking in Cork last night, the chief executive of International Airlines Group Willie Walsh said a visit by the Queen to Ireland would provide a huge boost to tourism.

"A visit would put Ireland in the spotlight to millions of potential tourists in the UK," he said. "It demonstrates that as a country, we've moved on."
