President Mary McAleese is due to officiate today at the launch of a new organisation for young people in the care of the State.

4,500 Irish children are currently under the care of health boards or other state bodies in Ireland

The Irish Association for Young People in Care, which will be launched at Croke Park today, is designed to protect the rights of these children and give them a say in running their own lives.
