More than 1,000 Muslims held a rally in Bangladesh’s capital today to protest against the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

Protesters marched through streets outside the country's main mosque in Dhaka, and later headed toward the Italian Embassy, a Dhaka Metropoitan police official said.

But police prevented the procession, organised by the hard-line group Khelafat Majlish, from reaching the embassy.

Protesters also burned Danish flags.
