The body representing the majority of the country's small butchers has criticised the proposed new EU ban on T-bone steaks.

The Association of Craft Butchers said it was 'flabbergasted' by the move, particularly since such beef has already been cleared by the Food Safety Authority.

Spokesman Pat Brady said he was concerned about the implications for the beef industry as a whole. The conflicting messages being issue by the FSA and the EU could only serve to wrongly confuse customers about the safety of eating beef, he said.
