Three men charged with explosives offences have walked free from the Special Criminal Court after the prosecution abandoned the case.

Three men charged with explosives offences have walked free from the Special Criminal Court after the prosecution abandoned the case.

The court told the men they were free to go after the Director of Public Prosecutions asked that the charges be withdrawn.

The three men are 55-year-old Joe Dillon, the public relations officer of the 32 county sovereignty movement who is from Green Lawns in Skerries, 45-year-old Eamon Flanagan of The Square in Skerries and 69-year-old Seamus McLaughlin from Howth.

All three were charged with possession of an explosive substance withh intent to endanger life in January 1998.

However, yesterday the prosecution sought an adjournment after the court made a certain ruling.

Today the prosecution asked that the charges be withdrawn.

The three walked free but will now be pursuing a formal verdict of not guilty to be registered in this case.
