Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams has claimed the bombing of Iraq could not be justified and warned that it would lead to a humanitarian crisis and further unrest in the Middle East.
The West Belfast MP also urged the Government to work with the UN to stop the war and maintain Irish neutrality.
He said: “This war is totally unjustified. Diplomatic efforts have not been exhausted.
“Moreover, the UN has been undermined as the work of the weapons inspectors was beginning to pay dividends.
“The Government has a strong role to play in this situation in seeking to bring an immediate end to the war and a return to diplomacy and dialogue.
“Granting permission for over-flights or landing at Shannon Airport is no part of that.”
