Govt to provide €12.5m for laid-off IFI workers

The Government has agreed to provide €12.5m to fund redundancy packages for the 620 Irish Fertiliser Industries workers laid off due to the closure of the company's plants in Cork, Arklow and Belfast.

The Government has agreed to provide €12.5m to fund redundancy packages for the 620 Irish Fertiliser Industries workers laid off due to the closure of the company's plants in Cork, Arklow and Belfast.

The company's other shareholder, ICI, will provide €12m towards the fund.

In total, the IFI workers will get a €32m redundancy package, or an average of around €50,000 each.
