Bank of Scotland Ireland to vote on industrial action
Around 600 Bank of Scotland Ireland workers could begin industrial action next week depending on the outcome of a vote later today.
The UNITE trade union is balloting its members on whether to strike over management's handling of the wind-down of the bank's Irish operations.
The trade union says Bank of Scotland has failed to clarify terms and conditions for a staff of a new company set up to deal with the closure.
UNITE regional officer Brian Gallagher said today's vote could lead to a full withdrawal of labour.
"Provided the vote will be in favour of industrial action, which I fully anticipate it will be, Wednesday week members will engage in a day of inaction, which essentially will mean that they will refuse to telephones and computer equipment," he said.
"If that doesn’t convince the bank to come to the negotiating table, that will be the start of rolling and escalating industrial action."
