Newcastle will smash their club record attendance for a friendly when Barcelona visit St James’ Park tonight.

By close of business last night, the Magpies had sold 47,700 tickets for the game, and the 52,000-seater stadium could be full by kick-off.

It beats the record established back in November 1946 when 47,124 watched the Magpies lose 3-2 to Swedish side Norrkoping.
