Bailey extradition case due back before High Court

The High Court is expected to set a date today for Ian Bailey's extradition hearing in connection with the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

The High Court is expected to set a date today for Ian Bailey's extradition hearing in connection with the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

The 53-year-old journalist is opposing his surrender to French authorities and has always denied any involvement in the film producer’s death.

Her body was discovered at her holiday home in Schull, Co Cork in late December 1996.

The court has heard it will be a complex battle involving preliminary issues such as allegations of Garda misconduct.

There is also an abuse of process claim in circumstances where France is looking for the journalist's surrender despite a declaration before Cork Circuit Court that he was no longer a suspect in the investigation of Ms Toscan du Plantier’s death.

His case is back before the court this morning when a hearing date may be set.
