A student has been removed from an equestrian event during the first day of competition at the Olympics, after she tried to unveil a Tibetan flag.
Christina Chan tried to unfurl the flag, concealed under a Canadian flag, at the dressage event in Hong Kong.
She refused to leave, and was later taken from the arena along with a second protester who had tried to help her.
China bans the Tibetan flag from events under rules which prevent the display of flags of countries not competing in the Games.
About one billion people worldwide watched the spectacular opening ceremony of the games live on TV yesterday.
The Olympics began with an impressive display of music, dancing and fireworks by up to 10,000 performers, followed by a parade of athletes around the national stadium.
