Dozens of military morphine cylinders used by soldiers when they are wounded were today found alongside a road.
Police said the morphine sulphate mediject cylinders, which include a spring-loaded needle, were discovered by a crime reduction officer in Sway, Hampshire.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Constabulary said the Ministry of Defence had been contacted about the 35 cylinders discovered so far along the B3055 and it was believed they could have fallen from a vehicle.
She said: ‘‘The cylinders are thought to be military in origin and of the type carried by soldiers to inject themselves if they are seriously wounded.’’
Sergeant Gary Cooper of New Milton police warned the public not to touch the brown cylinders, which have a yellow cap over the needle, but to contact police immediately if they discovered any.
