Man charged with Belturbet murder

A man in his 40s will appear in court this morning charged in connection with the murder of Darren McGrath in Cavan last week.

A man in his 40s will appear in court this morning charged in connection with the murder of Darren McGrath in Cavan last week.

The 31-year-old was shot dead as he slept in his home in Belturbet in Co Cavan in the early hours of May 20.

The suspect is due to appear before a special sitting of Monaghan District Court later this morning.

Mr McGrath was killed by a gunman who broke into his home in the Kilconny estate in Belturbet just before 5am on Tuesday May 20.

The victim was shot as he slept beside his partner.

Their baby was asleep in a cot in the next room.

Gardaí have arrested and questioned a total of four people as part of their investigation while officers have also been examining CCTV footage from the area.
