Honeymooning McCarthy celebrates 60th birthday

Paul McCartney was celebrating his 60th birthday today on his honeymoon with new bride Heather Mills.

McCartney’s career began at the age of 15 when he joined Liverpool band The Quarry Men alongside John Lennon.

He had his first taste of chart success at the age of 20 when The Beatles released the single Love Me Do, and they went on to enjoy 17 number one singles in the UK.

After the group split, he continued to have a string of hits with Wings and as a solo artist, and was knighted for his achievements in 1997.

His talents have made him the UK’s richest music star with a personal fortune of more than £700m (€1.09bn).

He is only the second Beatle to reach the age of 60, following Ringo Starr who celebrates his 62nd birthday next month.

George Harrison, who was the youngest Beatle, died last year aged 58 while John Lennon was murdered in 1980 at the age of 40.

McCartney and Mills, 34, are currently enjoying their honeymoon after their lavish wedding in Ireland last week.

They are believed to be on a tiny island in the Seychelles after spending a few days on Long Island in the US.

Meanwhile the former Beatle’s daughters are said to be furious that he has decided to stop wearing the wedding ring given to him by his first wife, Linda.

Fashion designer Stella and artist Mary were said to have refused to speak to Mills at the wedding at Castle Leslie, Co Monaghan, as a result.

McCartney had kept the ring on his wedding finger since Linda died of cancer four years ago, but was pictured without it at the ceremony.
