Summit Surge is under consideration for the Arlington Million on August 21.
Luca Cumani has his radar fixed on the valuable Grade One in Chicago following the six-year-old’s Pattern-race victory at York in July.
A statement posted on the Newmarket handler’s website, www.lucacumani.com, read: “He deserved his first win for well over a year, having shown he was up to this grade when second to Pressing in a Group Two at San Siro at the end of May.
“That was a particularly good effort as we have thought for a while now that a mile in top company is on the sharp side for him and we have been waiting to try him over a mile and a quarter.
“His reliance on very fast ground to show his form means that taking him abroad, certainly once we get into the autumn, isn’t going to be an option in Europe.
“The Arlington Million is under consideration as the European challenge doesn’t promise to be very strong at this point, and the American challenge might not be either.”
Cumani won the Arlington Million with Tolomeo in 1983, with Cima De Triomphe having finished fourth in last year’s renewal.
