The Taoiseach has described the murder of Belfast man Robert McCartney as horrific.

Bertie Ahern was responding to questions in the Dáil from Labour leader Pat Rabbitte, who made comparisons between the killing and the Northern Bank raid.

Mr McCartney's family has blamed the IRA for the killing, claiming republicans are frightening witnesses into silence.

However, speaking in the Dáil, the Taoiseach said the PSNI has not yet indicated who is responsible for the killing.
