Leinster and Ireland wing Denis Hickie has been named the Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the Year.
Hickie was honoured at a banquet in Dublin last night for his part in Leinster’s Interprovincial Championship and Celtic League successes in a season where they also reached the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
AIB All-Ireland League champions Shannon won the vote for Club of the Year with the Tom Rooney Memorial Award, presented for an exceptional contribution to Irish rugby, being won by Munster and Ireland assistant coach Niall O’Donovan.
The awards ceremony also saw the induction of former Ireland internationals Ray McLoughlin and Syd Millar to the rugby writers’ Guinness Hall of Fame.
