Mick O'Dwyer has stepped down as manager of the Kildare Senior Football squad.

Mick O'Dwyer has stepped down as manager of the Kildare Senior Football squad.

O'Dwyer, who signalled his intentions to quit at the start of the season, led the Lilywhites to Leinster titles in 1998 and 2000.

Provincial final defeat to Dublin this year followed by a heavy defeat to Kerry this time around spells the end of an illustrious career despite calls from county chiefs to reconsider.

Ex-Laois manager Tom Cribben has emerged as a possible successor along with locals Sarsfields boss John Courtenay, John Crofton and former Meath All-Ireland winner Colm O'Rourke.
