A woman in the US has bitten off her husband's tongue when he went to kiss her goodnight.

Karen Leuders bit off half of the tongue of husband Willard, who managed to mumble to an emergency operator he needed an ambulance.

When they eventually arrived - with police - 57-year-old Karen threw coffee at them.

The severed tongue was found by police and immediately packed in ice where hospital staff attempted to reattach it.

Willard, 79, has since claimed Karen was acting strange in the days up until the attack, speaking fast and discussing spiritual matters.
