Pop princess Samantha Mumba is taking on a new challenge as she announced her appointment as special representative for UNICEF Ireland.

Pop princess Samantha Mumba is taking on a new challenge as she announced her appointment as special representative for UNICEF Ireland.

The Drumcondra singer is helping promote issues facing children around the world and is encouraging Irish schoolkids to be more aware of their plight.

“It was something that I was really keen on, I mean I didn't think I would be somebody they would go for but they did so I absolutely jumped at the opportunity and I think it's wonderful.

"Kids helping kids is the unique opportunity for Irish kids. It helps them see what is going on in the world, to see what is happening to other kids that are the same age group and to show them the circumstances they are in."
