A woman ordered to pay off bad cheques by a judge has been accused of robbing a bank before returning with the cash she owed.

A woman ordered to pay off bad cheques by a judge has been accused of robbing a bank before returning with the cash she owed.

Paige Morphis, 29, allegedly left the dock, held up a bank with a handgun then returned to the court fines office to pay off what she owed.

Morphis, in court for issuing $1,100 in dud cheques, was arrested with the rest of the bank raid money at her home in Rives, Tennessee.

Danny Cunningham, Sheriff of Obion County, said Morphis is accused of robbing the First State Bank of Rives.

Police say she left the court in Union City, Tennessee, robbed the bank then fled into a cornfield.

Detectives searched the area but she escaped the search party to doubled-back and returned to court.

She was recognised by a bank clerk and officers arrested Morphis at home.

About $7,000 ( £5,000) was confiscated from the house.
