Gardaí in Dublin are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the southern end of the M50 this afternoon.

A lorry, travelling south, collided with a footbridge, known locally as the 'Newvale footbridge'.

Damage was done to the footbridge, however the lorry failed to stop.

A section of the bridge fell on the road, causing one of the motorway's lanes to be closed for a period.

Nobody was injured in the incident, however Gardaí would like to speak to any driver who was travelling on the road at the time.

They are also asking lorry drivers to examine their vehicles for related damage.
