Dick Advocaat has admitted he does not yet know whether he is cut out to be a director of football.
The Dutchman admitted that such a role represented a complete new era for a coach who had always spent his days on the training pitch with his players.
The fact that he has not committed himself to a long-term deal, admitting to plans to stay for either one or two years, has failed to clear up speculation that he could soon walk away if the new role was not to his liking.
Advocaat, who claimed he had turned down coaching jobs at national and club level to stay at Ibrox as technical director, admitted: "It is, for me, a totally new experience and I have to find out if it is to be my life. I don't know if it is.
"My contract will be for one or maybe two years. It has still to be decided."
