Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon insists the Parkhead club has to clinch the Tennent’s Scottish Cup to prevent the season being labelled a disappointment.
The Hoops walked away with the Bank of Scotland Premier League title a month before the end of the season.
But, after being knocked out of the UEFA Cup and CIS Insurance Cup at the quarter-final stages, a solitary trophy from the campaign would not satisfy the former Northern Ireland international.
Now Lennon wants to clinch a second Scottish Cup winner’s medal to add to his burgeoning collection.
He told the Glasgow Evening Times: “To come away with just one trophy after the season we have had, even though it is the SPL championship, a lot of people might look on that as disappointing.
“The league was over three or four weeks ago, and it has been difficult keeping the motivation going. But I don’t think we will need much motivation for Saturday.
“At the end of your career, you are marked on the medals in your trophy cabinet.
“We had a great year the first season I was here, winning the treble. Then we won the league again the next year.
“But since then we have had nothing to show for our efforts until we got the championship again last month. You want to win as much as you can, and it is so important that we win this cup final.
“You want to win any final you reach and you can be sure that the Scottish Cup is definitely still important to us.”
