The president of the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council said today his country will “definitely” hold elections in 2004.

The president of the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council said today his country will “definitely” hold elections in 2004.

Asked by reporters at a Muslim summit in Malaysia when elections would be held in Iraq, Iyad Allawi replied, “Definitely 2004.”

A US-drafted resolution being discussed at the United Nations calls on the Governing Council to announce a timetable by December 15 for elections and the drafting of a new constitution.
