New health research shows that reducing a child's salt intake results in a major reduction in the risk of stroke and heart attacks in later life.

The study, published in medical journal Hypertension, says that halving the amount of salt in a child's diet leads to an immediate fall in blood pressure.

The Irish Heart Foundation is urging parents not to give their youngsters frozen foods or salty snacks like crisps.
