Ireland’s waste disposal service is completely inadequate, according to an economic report.

A leading economist says that Ireland’s management of waste is posing a serious threat to the economy.

The findings from economist Peter Bacon suggest that the rate Irish people are disposing of industrial and household waste is horrendous.

The report says there will be nowhere to put the one million tones of it that will exist in 2010. The bulk of the waste comes from Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

Mr Bacon insists that there is no plan now in place to deal with the waste crises. He maintains that even if there was, there is no realistic programme for recycling which is one of the main ways of reducing waste.
