Women’s Council seeks action on childcare costs

The National Women’s Council has called for measures to encourage women with children to re-enter the labour market.

The National Women’s Council has called for measures to encourage women with children to re-enter the labour market.

The call was made at a conference on equality in the labour market being held in Donegal today.

The Women’s Council claimed many well-educated and professional women were leaving the workforce after having children due to the high cost of childcare.

It said the situation was so bad that it was actually cheaper for women to look after their own children than to get a full-time job and pay for childcare.
