This midsummer costume ball in West Cork sounds so magical

There's a dreamy evening of food, fairies and fiction planned in West Cork later this month.

Words by Water launch the annual Kinsale Literary Festival with a Midsummer Costume Ball on May 31.

The ball will be in the style of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' at the stunning Ballinacurra House in West Cork.

Guests will step into a magical forest wonderland for an evening devoted to love, fairies and summer dreams.

The evening will start with canapes and prosecco on the lawn before a three-course dinner.

Cork theatre company Chattyboo Productions will deliver a fast-paced, witty and extremely condensed version of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' between the courses and the evening will continue with dancing and romancing after dinner.

Tickets cost €85 per person and guests are asked to dress in costume or black tie.

Last year the group organised a fabulous Jane Austen-themed ball, which was a sellout success.

The ball is a fundraising event for the Kinsale Literary Festival which takes place in the popular town from October 4-7.

Speakers at this year's festival include 'Oh My God, What A Complete Aisling' authors Sarah Breen and Emer McLysaght, children's writers Sarah Webb and Dave Rudden, and Cork music legend John Spillane.

Another fundraising effort takes place on July 31 ahead of the festival with a family-friendly outdoor production of David Walliams' 'The Midnight Gang'.
