Bord Failte has warned that the economic effects of the attacks on the US are likely to be felt by the tourism industry here.
Official figures released in Brussels yesterday showed that industrial output slumped by 24.6% in July from June - the biggest fall out of the 15 European Union economies.
The tourism industry here has already suffered £200m losses as a result of the foot-and-mouth crisis.
The industry employs 145,000 people and accounts for 4.2% of gross national product.
"When there is conflict the Americans don't tend to travel out of their own country. It is a gloomy picture," a Bord Failte spokesman said.
